united states oregon yachats events smelt fry

The Yachats Smelt Fry was an annual event that featured roasted smelt, a small silver fish that came ashore to spawn in Yachats each year.
The Smelt Fry included outdoor picnic seating, live music, and visits from Smokey Bear and the old fisherman in yellow rain gear (Larry Nixon).
When the smelt started to spawn elsewhere, the festival died out.
